Asian Hamburger Helper (w/ rice cakes)

What you’ll need:

Servings: 8-ish

  • 3lbs ground turkey

  • 20oz bag of sliced frozen rice cakes of choice (or cooked elbow pasta)

  • 10 cloves of garlic

  • 1 tsp garlic salt

  • 2 tsps onion powder

  • 2 tsps chicken buillon

  • 1 tbsp honey (or sugar)

  • salt

  • black pepper

  • 2 tsps oyster sauce

  • 2 tsps sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1/2 tsp fish sauce

  • 1 tbsp gochujang paste

  • 2 cups baby spinach

  • cornstarch

  • water

Instructions:

  1. Start off by placing ground turkey in a mixing bowl and season with garlic salt, onion powder, chicken buillion, honey, salt, and black pepper . Mix well to combine and set to the side .

  2. Place frozen sliced rice cakes in a large bowl of water to defrost .

  3. Peel garlic cloves and coarsely mince . Set to the side .

  4. Heat up some cooking oil on med-high heat in a large skillet pot and stir fry garlic quickly until slightly golden and fragrant .

  5. Carefully add in seasoned ground turkey and stir fry until ground turkey is about 90% cooked through .

  6. Lower down heat to medium-low and add in drained sliced rice cakes .

  7. Season with oyster sauce, sesame oil, gochujang paste, soy sauce, fish sauce . Mix well, taste and adjust if needed once ground turkey is fully cooked . (I added a little more honey to balance out the saltiness).

  8. Lower down heat to low- low and in baby spinach or broccoli .

  9. Make a cornstarch slurry by combining equal parts cornstarch and water (the amount depends on how much liquid you’d prefer, I did 1 cup water and 1 tbsp cornstarch) . Turn off heat and add cornstarch slurry into the skillet pot . Mix well until all contents are combined .

  10. Enjoy right away !
