Asian Hamburger Helper (w/ rice cakes)
What you’ll need:
Servings: 8-ish
3lbs ground turkey
20oz bag of sliced frozen rice cakes of choice (or cooked elbow pasta)
10 cloves of garlic
1 tsp garlic salt
2 tsps onion powder
2 tsps chicken buillon
1 tbsp honey (or sugar)
salt
black pepper
2 tsps oyster sauce
2 tsps sesame oil
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp fish sauce
1 tbsp gochujang paste
2 cups baby spinach
cornstarch
water
Instructions:
Start off by placing ground turkey in a mixing bowl and season with garlic salt, onion powder, chicken buillion, honey, salt, and black pepper . Mix well to combine and set to the side .
Place frozen sliced rice cakes in a large bowl of water to defrost .
Peel garlic cloves and coarsely mince . Set to the side .
Heat up some cooking oil on med-high heat in a large skillet pot and stir fry garlic quickly until slightly golden and fragrant .
Carefully add in seasoned ground turkey and stir fry until ground turkey is about 90% cooked through .
Lower down heat to medium-low and add in drained sliced rice cakes .
Season with oyster sauce, sesame oil, gochujang paste, soy sauce, fish sauce . Mix well, taste and adjust if needed once ground turkey is fully cooked . (I added a little more honey to balance out the saltiness).
Lower down heat to low- low and in baby spinach or broccoli .
Make a cornstarch slurry by combining equal parts cornstarch and water (the amount depends on how much liquid you’d prefer, I did 1 cup water and 1 tbsp cornstarch) . Turn off heat and add cornstarch slurry into the skillet pot . Mix well until all contents are combined .
Enjoy right away !
